Genetic Testing
Introduction
Genetic testing is a technology for testing personal DNA genetic polymorphism and genotypes by testing the cells extracted from human blood, other body fluids or tissue .
Genetic testing has two main objectives, one is disease diagnosis, for example, the diagnosis of leukemia classification, and so on, have to use related genetic testing . The other is disease prevention, to test the genotype and certain genetic polymorphism of healthy people, and then analyse the possible risk between genes and disease in order to give proper guidance to people and try to avoid diseases.
In recent years, genetic testing has been used to detect individual genetic polymorphism related to adaptability on food, nutrition supplements or cosmetics so as to guide peoples nutrition and health planning.
In foreign countries, genetic testing for healthy people has about 6 years’ history. Once in the process of human genome mapping, two American scientists have predicted that the future of medical science wouls be based on testing the genetic polymorphism. At present, only in the United States, Britain, Belgium, and several countries, genetic testing for healthy people is carrying out. In the United States, each year, an average of 4 million people do genetic testing to check their disease.
The accuracy of genetic testing
Once the susceptibility geneis determined, the disease can be predicted.
But if people with the certain susceptibility gene would get the disease or when will get the disease ,no onecan tell .
Genetic testing is assessing the incidence of a disease on the basis of a large amount of people, and is closely related to people’s individual living environment. It is not absolutely that people with a susceptibility gene would get the disease in the future, but by testing and discovering certain types of disease susceptibility so as to provide targeted health care for people.
The application of genetic testing
Given the technical and cost aspects of the status , not everyone needs to be done predictability of the risk of disease gene detection. The following people could begin to consider:
People with a family history of related diseases and would like to understand their risk of illness;
Or have a history of clinical manifestations, would like to know whether the disease caused by genetic abnormalities or not;
Without the above situation, but would like to know the risk of illness.
For genetic testing of nutrition and beauty, suitable for all those who want to enhance the quality of life.
The gene detection method
We mainly use the method of PCR and sequencing , which is the worlds most accurate detection method. Its accuracy of analysis is above 95 %, and is a standard genetic testing method approved by the FDA of the USA.
This method can pinpoint the location of SNP sites, and accurately isolate gene type, but is time-consuming cost a lot .
